December 11, 2006: The Fat Lady Sings at Robopong 200
The season ended with a bang and a whimper for Team Rapid Racing at the newly named Robopong 200 TAG endurance race at NCMP.
The Robopong 200 has quickly (very quickly) become one of the premier races of the season. Track Owner Mark Dismore’s stated goal is to make the 200 the “Indy 500” of kart racing and it is well on its way.
A massive entry of 86 machines (remember this is a one class race for TAG) and with only 56 (only?) machines making it to the feature qualifying was like another race unto itself. The top 50 in timed qualifying went straight to the race. T...Read Article
November 22, 2006: The TaG World Championships
The recently completed TAG USA World Championships held at New Castle Motorsports Park (NCMP) have to be considered at least a qualified success.
The turnout was decent but not huge partly due to some manufactured controversy by a few of the uninformed. TAG Sr. had a great field, TAG Masters was strong as well, TAG Pro looked good, TAG Jr. was also reasonably strong although I am still bothered by the performance of this class. Somehow Jr.s running as fast as or faster than the Pro class just doesn’t seem right. TAG Cadet (1 & 2?) was fairly well attended, but TAG Sr. Heavy and ...Read Article
March 25, 2006: Rock & Roll Part 47
It’s time; finally it’s actually time to go racing. NCMP opens for testing in a few days and the first race is only a week and a half away. Things have been more than hectic here at the palatial World Headquarters of Rapid Racing and as a result this writer will begin the season in the same Tony Venox/Parilla that we campaigned last year. Stay tuned for the new ride a bit later.
Recently I had an experience that confirmed the fact that despite the whiteness of my hair I am still in touch with my rebellious youth. A long time friend and customer had a surprise birthday party held...Read Article
March 25, 2006: THIS & THAT
The racing season is now upon us. I’m talking like right now!!
There has been a lot of talk over the winter about what’s right and what’s wrong with kart racing. The problems aren’t hard to identify but the solutions? Well that’s another matter!
One of the subjects that keep coming up is how do we get new people into our favorite form of motorsport. The answer to that is simple, we have to quit preaching to the choir and get the message out to motorsports enthusiasts rather than just telling each other. What I feel might be the bigger problem is how to keep new r...Read Article
December 9, 2005: From the Seat
Just as last year the last event before the Fat Lady sings was the endurance race at New Castle Motorsports Park (NCMP). This year instead of being a 3 hour race it became a 200 lap (Right at 200 miles) event making the race nearly 45 minutes longer than last years edition.
Team Rapid Racing has looked forward to this event all year and we were there in force. This years driver lineup included yours truly, year long team mate Pete Gross and a new addition (Sugar) Ray McKelvey. As always pit smarts and pure muscle were supplied by the inimitable Gooseman (?).
